And I’m back with another smoothie recipe!
This week had been crazy warm, and so we’ve been having smoothies every day. It’s a sign that summer is coming… and it’s coming fast!
The beauty of making smoothies is you can pretty much use whatever fruits, vegetables and seeds/nuts combo that you want as long as the taste don’t clash. It’s also a good way to incorporate fresh and raw food into your diet if you are not into eating salad, which you should especially if you consume a lot of meat that makes our body acidic. We are big meat eaters in this house so I make sure we eat raw veggies and fruits to balance it.
Did you know that cancer cells thrive in an acidic, but not in an alkaline environment? Fruits and vegetables are alkaline food that can increase the blood pH levels and create an environment in the body that discourages cancer growth. So don’t be too hasty to skip an opportunity to eat/drink a good portion of alkaline food such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and herbal teas.
Our toddlers are crazy about smoothies! So far, they have not turned down any smoothies I have made in the past, even the ones with spinach in it.
Today, I made a fruit smoothie using some of the fruits we have at home. And it was refreshing! I hope you also give it a try! And feel free to tweak it however you want. 🙂
- 1 1/2-2 cups crushed ice
- 2-3 cups almond milk
- 3 fresh ripe mangoes (chopped)
- a cup of fresh strawberries (caps off)
- 1 banana
- 1 red delicious apple (sliced)
- 1-2 tbsp. ground flaxseed
- (Optional) 1-2 tbsp. ground chia seeds
- (Optional) 1-2 tbsp. raw organic honey
- Place the crushed ice in the blender and pour almond milk. Blend.
- Combine all the ingredients and blend well until smooth. Serve cold.
Note: You may skip adding the honey, which I did, if your fruits are pretty sweet already.
